John Lennon and Yoko Ono appeared at the John Sinclair Freedom Rally, a benefit concert held in Crisler Arena in 1971. Radical activist Sinclair had been jailed for possession of two joints, but was released three days after the benefit. Lennon had written and recorded a song called "John Sinclair," in which he decried Sinclair's ten year sentence: "He gave him ten for two--what else can the judges do?"
