Tony Bennett, also known as Tony Benefit, because of all his charitable causes, came to San Francisco in 1978, where he had left his heart many years before, to sing on behalf of another non-profit: KJAZ radio, which was threatened at that time financially. Others who showed up to sing and play gratis were Sarah Vaughan, Bill Evans, Earl Hines, Philly Joe Jones, Herbie Hancock, etc.
